When LGBT+ pioneers are discussed, a number of famous faces probably spring to mind. However, one person you may not immediately think of is Caroline Cossey – also known as Tula – a Bond girl, dancer and top model who took the British government to the European Court of Human Rights in the ’90s in a bid to change discriminatory UK laws.

Bond Girl
"Back in the day", I remember distinctly looking for more information anywhere I could find it when I learned there was a transsexual woman who landed an acting job as a James Bond girl. Of course I found out her name was Caroline Cossey. She appeared in the 1981 James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only." Following her appearance in the film, she was outed in the tabloids and ended up as the first transgender woman to pose for "Playboy" in 1991.In 1992 Caroline Cossey married Canadian David Finch and they currently live in the Atlanta, Georgia area. As far as I can tell from the information I can find.
She still has an active Twitter account which you can follow if interested. It should be remembered after Cossey was outed and lost her career, she became a true pioneer fighting for transgender rights.

R.I.P Hef
How many cross dressers and/or transgender women have dreamed of donning the Playboy Bunny ears and fuzzy tails? How many of us have gone to Halloween parties dressed as a Bunny? More than a few, I am sure.
On the passing of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, it is only fitting to remember the one transgender Playboy model and former "Bond" 007 girl Caroline Cossey:
It's also fitting to note (as Coffey) recently did, that Hefner didn't have to feature her and "did an incredible job for those times."
Playboy was threatened with losing millions in advertising revenue if they went ahead with featuring Cossey but in the end refused to cave in to the pressure and ran the issue anyway!
A true LGBT pioneer...in the flesh.

Looking back at the first Transgender Playboy Model
From the Huffington Post Gay Voices- plenty of memories!
"Caroline “Tula” Cossey, who became the world's first transgender model to pose for Playboy magazine in 1991, opens up in her first media interview in two decades for the publication.
In the 1970s, the British-born Cossey appeared in issues of Australian Vogue and Harper's Bazaar before landing a role in the 1981 James Bond film, “For Your Eyes Only.” Shortly after the movie's release, however, she was outed as transgender by the tabloid News of the World."
I was always a huge 007 James Bond fan and just couldn't believe there could be a trans woman with enough beauty to "make the cut" and be a Bond Girl.
Here's more, before I leave you with the link to the entire post:
"Cossey, now 60, eventually walked away from the spotlight and now lives a relatively quiet life in Atlanta. "There’s a difference between being known as Tula the transsexual international model versus just a successful model," she tells Playboy's Shane Michael Singh in the July and August issue of the magazine. "It wasn’t the same. I felt like a circus act.

"Tula" Bond Transgender Woman Classic
Back in the day, there were talk shows (even Springer and Maury) which took a fairly serious look at the world and the people in it. One was Caroline Cossey (Tula) the beautiful transgender model and actress who made an appearance as a Bond "007" girl. This video on the Cyrsti's Condo big screen goes into her life after she was "outed"

Bond...James Bond
Talk about feeling old, tonight I went to see the latest James Bond film SkyFall. I knew have been a fan since I saw the first 007 movie but I didn't realize it was fifty years ago. Really? that's a half a century according to my advanced math.
All age jokes aside, the Bond movies were a transgender nightmare for me. During the times in my youth I was trying so desperately to fit in as a male, James Bond was one heck of a roll model. The problem was though the Bond Girls were so alluring to me too. That would have been OK if I had not wanted to be one.
As far as we know only one transsexual woman has made it into the Bond Girl's rank and her name was
Caroline Cossey (right)
If you are a strong Bond fan and haven't seen Skyfall yet, I will only say it is a highly transitional Bond. The movie says not so subtly it's time for us old peeps to step aside. I knew it was time and was especially fascinated with the pictures of the current 007 (Daniel Craig) in drag. Below.
As I remember though, there were some questions about Bond author Ian Fleming's sexuality and I vividly remember a short story which circulated through a classroom in high school which featured Bond as a cross dressed woman. For all I know, the very gay teacher could have written it himself and it was from him we heard about Fleming. So don't quote me!!!
At any rate this latest Bond movie at the least presents an interesting transition into the future. If indeed the producers continue the franchise.
